The Swahili say when a child engages in a deed that hurts their parent, even if the parent won’t outrightly say: “I curse you”, the parent’s plight and feeling of being neglected is just enough to make a child go down the pan.
According to critics, that explains why Diamond Platnumz is “quickly going down the rabbit hole” after he missed out on top BET Award to South Africa’s DJ Black Coffee.
Diamond Platnumz lost in the category of Best International Act – Africa in the BET Awards that were held on June 26 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles – and speculations have been rife since then that the “curse” of neglecting his father at a time the old man needs him most could be responsible for the singer’s loss.
According to entertainment industry stakeholders, Diamond characteristically was at a better position to win the award.
A source identified as Rashid Idd said: “We should reflect on the relationship between Diamond Platnumz and his father. The dad’s curse has befallen Diamond. Diamond’s actions of continuous neglect and abandon – such that the old man reels in poverty and disease – cannot be a source of blessing to the singer.”
“Everyone, especially Team Diamond had a strong conviction that Diamond will trump his competitors (Wizkid, AKA, Serge Beynaud, MzVee, Cassper Nyovest, Black Coffee and Yemi Alade) to the BET award. People who keenly follow the singer’s life will tell you that his dad’s lamentations could have been a poison to his success. When Diamond left Tanzania for BET gala in the US, his dad was rushed to hospital, but the old man did not have money for treatment.”
“Why is Diamond so hard on his father?” posed Mr Idd.
Diamond Platnumz is yet to respond to the tirade. Diamond’s father abandoned the singer with his mother when little Diamond was 6. All through, he has been brought up by his mother Sanura Kassim.
Diamond’s dad has been suffering from skin-related diseases and leg pains due to old age.
