This Liberian born, Nigerian influenced and Melbourne based act is fast becoming one of Australia’s Afrobeat export.
Born Rueben Karpeh, Sugarboy has so far clinched 3 outstanding awards from the Liberian community in Australia.
SugarBoy is not sleeping or letting his guard down, he confessed AAMMA AWARDS is his next target and then see how things go from there. My wakeup call moment really was when I went to a studio for the very first time. It was just a local studio operated by a friend. I connected so well with the music, I was able to express a lot of things I felt inside and everyone that walked into the studio on that day had words in their mouth to say about how I was singing.
SugarBoy first goal was to travel and to be recognised within my African community and all over Australia, he told AAMMA. Sugerboy has performed alongside some great acts including Nigeria’s Basketmouth, Ramsey Nouah, Pascal Atuma, Iyanya, Timaya , just to mention a few. Sugerboy is one act many promoters would call upon to showcase and display Afro Australian talent whenever a visiting star from Africa and beyond is set to perform down under. His ability to wow the crowd and keep them engaged is one factor that made him popular in the Afro Australian Entertainment scene. Sugerboy is one act to watch out for. One of Sugerboy’s single is currently playing on Iroking , Hott fm(Liberia) and also got featured in the African Music Magazine. With Sugerboy- what you see is what you get.
